Hampstead school letter for Abu-Dis boys school

Thursday 13th December 2012
Letter to our friends in Abu Dis Boys School.

Good afternoon from Hampstead. How are you?
What’s it like in Palestine? What do you do in Palestine?
In these sessions we've been learning about the good things in Palestine, like the farming olives and what they sell like ice cream in Ramallah and making glass. I find Palestine interesting because it’s different to England. In England we have ice cream in ice cream vans and packets but in Palestine they scoop it out.
We've been learning about what’s going on in Palestine. In addition we've seen what kind of life you have lived. We also learned about the keys in Palestine for refugees.

Lessons in Abu Dis and London

Here at some views from the 9th grade in Abu Dis Boys School about their hometown:

We have also been teaching the students about tourist attractions in London.  We showed them various pictures of attractions of the following:
football stadiums - they were able to recognise many of them
London Eye
Big Ben
Buckingham Palace
Madame Tussaud's
Public Transport
Different types of food

We then gave them an exercise in pairs where they had £100 to spend on a day out in London so had to pick and choose what they wanted to do.  Many of them were surprised out how expensive the premier league football matches are!

Abu Dis and Hampstead meet at football

Tomorrow a group of Abu Dis Boys' School football players (part of the Abu Dis Sports Club team) arrive to join a group of Hampstead School football players (part of South Hampstead Football Club) for ten days of football and getting to know each other.

There is more info on this amazing project here...

and www.camdenabudis.net/twinningteams.html

Below are some pictures of the boys in both places getting ready for the visit1

Look out for the matches during their visit, if you are in London. If you are in London OR Abu Dis, look out for all the people taking part, after the visit, to find out how it went!

Friendship Olive Tree

This tree was planted at Hampstead School in July 2012 by Hammad from Abu Dis Boys' School and other young people from the CADFA Palestinian youth visit - for more on that visit, see http://inourplace.blogspot.co.uk

This is hoping that tree - and that friendship - last a long time :)
